London Landmarks Half Marathon

The London Landmarks Half Marathon starts on Pall Mall and takes in the sights of London, starting with Trafalgar square and including St Pauls cathedral, Somerset house, the Shard, the Gherkin, The Palace of Westminster and The Tower of London with the race ending outside Downing street. I only noticed the road ahead, endless crowds of people and the unyielding wind beating me back from my goal, a shiny new PB and unique medal. Alas, what with the crowds and the wind my plan was scuppered and i finished 5 minutes behind my PB, however the atmosphere and huge support buoyed my spirits across the finish line.

The Medal

The medal is Quite unique, a brass a depiction of Nelsons column from below with the London landmarks logo at the base, the medal also hinges open to reveal a route map and iTab insert to display your name and time. The door is held closed with a tiny magnet to ensure it doesn’t open whilst wearing. Due to the design of the medal, the ribbon mounting is a small ring that the ribbon attaches to with a pivot style mounting which means it rotates easily when displayed.

Weight77g
Dimensions83mm x 70mm
MaterialBrass and enamel

The ribbon itself is high quality, soft and silky with high quality printing displaying ‘Finisher’ and the Logo. its ends join at the medal and terminate in a small brass ring to connect to the medal.

Overall I rate this medal 6/10

I don’t like the ribbon mounting, I appreciate this was necessary for the design of the pendant but I don’t think it was worth sacrificing the display value. I find the hinged door to be a nice touch but can seem a little gimmicky and more could have been included inside the medal to make it special.
